The Top 10 Ways to Have a Great Day…And New Year!


We are often content to be…content. While there is nothing wrong with an ordinary day, having a great day can provide a sense of strength and renewal that is often undervalued in our society. Here are 10 suggestions for transforming an ordinary day into an extraordinary one. Who knows, these practices could perhaps transform your entire year into one of the best yet!

  1. Be Intentional.Take respsonsibility for your day and year and start off with a plan. What one thing can you do differently today that could impact your life in a positive way? Start small, but start with intentionality and a plan!
  2. Be Mindful. Be present in all that you do today. Try to be consicouslyaware of yourself, your surroundings, your loved ones, and your interactions with others.
  3. Prioritize. Do first things first and attend to those things that need to be dealt with today, rather than putting them off until tomorrow.
  4. Quality Time. Connect with those you love. If you aren’t able to be physically present with your family and friends, contact them via phone, email, a thoughtful card, or even a text message to let them know you care.
  5. Relax! Allow yourself time to simply enjoy yourself and take a break from all of your burdens and responsibilities. Take a few moments to step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy your time TODAY!
  6. Learn Something New. Change things up a little and stimulate your mind, body, and spirit by learning something new. Read a new book, learn a new skill, or practice a new hobby.
  7. Treat Yourself.  Remember that there is a difference between selfishness and self-care. It is quite alright to give yourself a little gift every now and then. Maybe you could really use a special meal, a relaxing massage, or even just a bit of time by yourself today.  You deserve it!
  8. Treat Others. Giving to and serving others can be a very humbling and gratifying experience. Treat another to something today and notice how you benefit as well.
  9. Complete One Thing. Finish up a project or task and acknowledge your accomplishments for today.
  10. Learn To Be. Allow yourself time to simply be and enjoy your life rather than feeling a need to fill every moment with some form of activity. Remember, we are human Be-ings rather than human Do-ings.
